Webbing

One-inch (25.4mm) webbing is commonly used by both climbers and also in rescue work. Machines to make older style spiral stitch webbing are no longer being made. Newer webbing is made using a chain stitch on different types of machines. This newer style of webbing can be produced cheaper while still offering all the benefits of the older style.

Webbing is most commonly used for creating anchors. It is inexpensive and can easily be replaced it is damaged. Because of it's size, it is also easy to carry long lengths of webbing compared with rope. We recommend using pre-sewn anchors, but extra webbing is always useful if additional anchors are needed. It can also be used when expensive pre-sewn anchors might be damaged from oil or mud. Webbing is also useful for creating additional straps.

Since it is common to carry different lengths of webbing, we recommend using the following standard colors for lengths of webbing. This makes it easy to pick the right length of webbing for the right use.

One-Inch (25mm) Tubular Webbing

• Comparable in strength and abrasion resistance to shuttle loom (spiral weave) webbing but cheaper.

• Easier to untie after a heavy load than tubular webbing.

Two-Inch (50mm) Tubular Webbing

 

• Available on in 45 meter (150 ft) spools.

• Military standard webbing for use in parachutes and cargo tie-downs.
