The H-Bandage is one of the newest trauma bandages on the market.
The latest version of the combat bandages being used by the United States in fighting in Iraq.
The design fixes a number of problems with the current bandages being used.
The bandage is named for the 'H' shaped plastic hook that allows it to be used as a compression bandage.
The design helps concentrate pressure more deeply into the wound and over a larger surface area.
The elastic used on the bandage is 40 percent strong than the previous design allowing to to apply more pressure than any other bandage on the market stopping bleeding even in very severe limb wounds.
Live animal testing was conducted in the United States on a 45 kg pig. An incision was made through the femoral vein in the animal. The wound was packed with gauze followed by application of the H-bandage over the wound. After two minutes, the bandage was lifted to demonstrate bleeding was fully controlled. The wound was repacked and the H- bandage was reapplied. After 5 additional minutes, the bandage was removed. Major arterial hemostasis was achieved.
The strerile bandages are vacuum-packed to take up as little space as possible in a first aid kit.
Designed to be applied with one-hand.
