A weighted bag is attached to the throwline to aid in accurate placement over a desired branch or anchor point. This allows the arborist to then pull a climbing line into position. Typically, throwlines are constructed from materials like UHMWPE (Dyneema) or polyethylene monofilaments for abrasion resistance, low elongation, and high visibility. Throw weights are often color-coded for easy identification and made from durable materials like Cordura, with weights ranging from 8 oz to 16 oz depending on the application. For storage and organization, folding cubes or specialized bags are used to keep throwlines tangle-free and readily deployable.
