The Rock Exotica Rescue Eight is a traditional style figure eight with side ears. The Rock Exotica Rescue Eight is machined from a solid 6061 T6 aluminum block. A CNC machine is used to curve the edges and ensure flat surfaces. The surface is anodized to provide longer wear than bear aluminum.

The Rock Exotica Rescue Eight has ears which serve two major purposes. They provide an additional safety to prevent a rope from slipping over the top and forming a ‘girth hitch’. If this happens during use, the rope will lock in place and the user will no longer be able to descend. The ears also make it easier to lock off the figure 8. This is useful if the user needs to stop in one position. It allows the user to safely use his hands for other tasks without having to physically hold the rope to keep control.

The descender can be used with a single rope up to 13mm in diameter. If double ropes are used, the rope diameters should not be larger than 10.5mm.
